Collecting in the Hamptons: A Design Dialogue at the Marram

Elena Frampton joined a conversation on collecting art in the Hamptons as part of Chapter’s Design Dialogue series, held at the Marram Hotel in Montauk. Moderated by advisor Chris Omachi, and with gallerist Tripoli Patterson of Tripoli Gallery and architect Juergen Riehm of 1100 Architect, the discussion explored what it means to live with art on the East End from the region’s decades-long pull as a retreat for artists and collectors, to the way local homes are so often designed around the work they hold. The panel considered how architecture and collecting inform one another: light-filled galleries, living rooms built to double as exhibition spaces, and the quiet negotiation between everyday life and serious collections.

It’s a conversation close to Frampton Co’s own practice, where art and interiors are treated as one continuous act of shaping how a space is lived in, and echoes what we explore at Exhibition in Bridgehampton, where art and design meet season after season. If you are building a home around an art collection, or building a collection, this is exactly the kind of conversation we love having. Thank you to Chapter for convening such a thoughtful group, and to the Marram for hosting.
